Hanamiyama Park, Fukushima

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

花見山公園(福島県福島市)

Every spring, news of cherry blossoms arrives from all over Japan. Hanamiyama Park, which is said to have Taoyuan Township in Fukushima, is one of them.

It is not well known that Hanamiyama park is a privately owned mountain. Hanamiyama park was the place where the second generation owner, Ichiro Abe, and his father, Isejiro Abe, stopped sericulture and began to clear thickets in order to earn a living as a flower farmer, which led to the birth of Hanamiyama park.

The park has been open to the public since 1959 with the good intentions of Mr. Ichiro Abe. It took more than 70 years to reach the current state, and it has been repeatedly cleared and planted every day. In spring, flowers such as plum blossoms, golden bell flowers, Tokai and Yoshino cherry blossoms, and Hana peach blossoms bloom all at once, and the entire mountain appears to be dyed in a pale pink color.

From Mar. 22 to Apr. 17, 2022 traffic will be restricted around Hanamiyama Park. From JR Fukushima station, it is convenient to take the temporary bus ‘Hanamiyama-go’ bound for Hanamiyama park or a flat-rate taxi.
